The Afghan Star show, one of the most watched programs in the Post-Taliban era, is back on track. However, what makes this year a special year is the participation of a young courageous Afghan woman, Elaha Sorur, who has decided to go against the socio-cultural constraints of Afghan society. Though Elaha had to leave the program on the fifth round of the show, fortunately this does not necessarily mean the end of her career yet.

Following excessive demand from the audience, Radio Tolo announced on Thursday that the program has decided to nominate one of the six to ten contestants to rejoin the sixth round of the show as a surprise. Therefore, Elaha needs your support more than ever.  

Elaha’s courageous action to join the program shows an emerging women’s movement, particularly among the returnees from neighboring countries, to resist the country’s historical socio-cultural prejudices. It is time that we encourage and give our support to women like Elaha to fight back against such discrimination and restrictions.

Yes, it is indeed time that we support Afghan women’s emancipation and assist them to make a change in Afghanistan. Therefore, please vote for Elaha and take part in this campaign to promote her and thereby all of her Afghan sisters.
